Education has long been proclaimed to be the most efficient approach to developing a successful and fulfilling life. And it is by far one of the greatest free world advantages we know of. But somehow in the grueling trenches of academics, there is an overwhelming disconnection with the itch that is creativity.
The desire to foster the artistic senses, too, has been a practice that has influenced the human experience from the very beginnings of the world. Consider for a moment Mozart or Michelangelo; Cecil B. DeMille or Alvin Ailey; and who could forget young David from the bible. Whether you choose the musical prodigy or the romantic poet, the prevailing evidence is that they each shared one common goal: the attainment of excellence by way of cultivating passion and skill to its highest potential.
Unfortunately, though, in communities plagued with adversity, creativity is often neglected and takes a back seat to maintaining mere livelihood. But we believe there’s more. The Untitled program advocates originality and creative expression without reservation. Thus, we have elected to provide a space that will host these disciplines and enable people to hone their creative affection.
We find it highly important that the urban community be introduced to an alternative lifestyle despite the consistent hardships it faces daily. It is equally important to us that the “have-not” have a chance to experience the extra activities typically associated with the more affluent “haves”. There is a kinetic energy in all of us that speaks specifically to our creative minds and needs to be released. We believe this to be true for all people regardless of race, color, gender, politics, religious background and/or economic status.
“The creative process is not controlled by a switch you can simply turn on or off; it's with you all the time." - Alvin Ailey
